New York Bar Foundation Awards Grant to Justice Center

The New York Bar Foundation recently presented a grant of $5,200 to the City Bar Justice Center. The grant will be used to support the Housing Security Initiative of their LGBT Advocacy Project, which will educate and assist LGBT seniors experiencing housing instability through community presentations, legal advice, and “know your rights” materials.

“We are honored to receive this grant from The New York Bar Foundation to protect the rights of LGBT seniors who are struggling to secure affordable housing,” states Lynn M. Kelly, Executive Director of the City Bar Justice Center. She continues, “Our Housing Security Initiative is in line with the City Bar Justice Center’s tradition of filling unmet legal needs in New York City, and we hope to ensure safe, positive outcomes for senior members of the LGBT community in the coming year.”

In early 2016, The New York Bar Foundation allocated over $580,000 in grants to 99 programs across New York State. Each of the 13 Judicial Districts received at least one grant. These grants assist in:

• Increasing public understanding of the law

• Improving the justice system and the law

• Facilitating the delivery of legal services

• Enhancing professional competence and ethics
