On March 6, the City Bar held “Emergency Preparedness for Families Affected by the Executive Orders on Immigration,” which included a panel of immigration and family law experts who discussed parental directives, and other legal measures immigrant families may be able to take to protect their children.

Now life is about to change for the better for Rochelle, her girls, and the thousands of families receiving FEPS. New York State just settled a lawsuit filed by The Legal Aid Society and Hughes Hubbard & Reed by agreeing to significantly increase the FEPS subsidies it issues on behalf of low-income families with children in New York City.

Just days after the Executive Orders were signed, the City Bar Justice Center (CBJC) joined the efforts of volunteer attorneys who rushed to JFK International Airport.

The City Bar Justice Center co-sponsored a training event, on December 19, for attorneys interested in representing hate-crime victims and peaceful protesters. Over 400 attorneys were there as experts from social justice and criminal defense organizations and New York government officials educated attendees on these issues.
