Taiwanese Delegation Visits Justice Center
by CBJC Staff June 12, 2012
The City Bar Justice Center’s Immigrant Women & Children Project (IWC) staff met at the City Bar with a Taiwanese Delegation hosted by the U.S. Department of State on Friday, June 8. The delegation included prosecutors, an immigration official, federal police and a judge who are traveling around the United States to learn and share best practices in “Combating Trafficking in Persons” with experts and counterparts.
The members of the delegation have been directly involved in domestic and international trafficking cases in various capacities in Taiwan. They were interested in hearing about the experience of NGOs, law enforcement and U.S. government officials on efforts to investigate and prosecute trafficking, particularly in regard to victims of child labor abuses, worker trafficking and involuntary or abusive domestic and commercial work conditions. IWC staff shared case studies, experiences working with law enforcement and work on policy issues that affect survivors of trafficking, as State Department employees provided simultaneous interpretation.
